Anyone got ideas? Im running out of them.

I got a 02 ranger 2.3 that I put in a used engine.
Sometimes it works fine.. others it just falls on its face and spits and sputters and backfires.
The only code it has is for a rear o2 sensor heater.. I dont think that is causing it.
Its got new plugs and wires and coil.
It didnt run like this before the engine swap so I gotta assume it isnt a clogged cat or bad computer.
I would think if it was a temp sensor or something it would throw a code.
If it was a bad injector or something it should be setting a misfire code.

What am I missing here? Please give me any input you have. Thanks

Well I have narrowed it down to too much air or not enough fuel. Still getting nowhere though.
I checked the EGR.. it is not the problem.
Changed the head temperature sensor. That did nothing.
Short term and long term fuel trim are both -13
Got 65 PSI of fuel pressure all the time.
Changed the map sensor.
Changed the crank sensor.
Changed the coil.
Changed the TPS.
Its got new plugs and wires.
Checked the compression and it seems ok.
Sprayed everywhere I think there could be a vacuum leak and not coming up with any.
I cant understand it. I would think SOMETHING would have to be causing it.

The thing is starving for fuel. If I spray a little carb cleaner in the intake boot it clears right up and runs perfect.
I figure if its a valve issue or something it should show on a compression test. If its a vacuum leak it should show when im spraying carb cleaner around all the vacuum hoses and intake.
What am I missing here?

And now I have tried a new MAF sensor out of my truck that I know works fine.
I took it for a drive and was watching the fuel trims readings and when its running like crap the fuel trim is like -13 and when its running fine it is like positive 10. Maybe this will help guide me in the right direction?
There is a code for B1S1 o2 heater circuit.. but I dont think the heater would affect the running of the vehicle.. correct me if I am wrong.. right now Im beginning to think I dont know anything about cars.. LOL

Free Bump.

The O2 sensor before the cat has a LOT of input for fuel trims.
The O2 sensor after the cat simply monitors cat efficiency and doesn't affect fuel trims.

I would suggest replacing the upstream O2 even if the HEGO fuse is good. If the fuse is blown, see if replacing the fuse helps. I doubt it will because the bad O2 probably caused the fuse to blow in the first place (if it's blown).

I'm a bit confused because your first post said "The only code it has is for a rear o2 sensor heater", then in your last post you said "There is a code for B1S1 o2 heater circuit".

B1S1 WILL affect how it runs, that is the O2 BEFORE the cat.
