The not a hurst shifter thread.

Pivot point is higher in the housing. Throw is very short in the m5r2

So is that all a Hurst does? Changes pivot point while keeping the stub the same length?

As far as I can tell that's about it. All movement is very tight and short. It also looks like all the normal wear items have been eliminated.

yes, moving the pivot point upwards is what gives it the shorter throws between gears.
As far as I can tell, Its still a hurst, dont know if the parent company has changed. was either mr gasket or holley

The pic I posted is a core m5r2 swap
Shifter. Core machines the bases and uses Hurst parts.

@Ramcharger90

Sorry I let this slip my mind... that's why I keep a notepad these days so I don't totally forget to follow up on stuff.

So other then giving you the Hurst "look alike" aesthetic... do you feel this mod gave you any other benefits? More comfortable shifter positioning maybe?

@Jim Oaks

Seems there is some interest in this how to. Cheap way to get the Hurst look without spending $400 on the real deal shifter. Might be something to add to the tech library.

It is more comfortable than the normal shifter lever because I built it to the way I drive and sit and for the aesthetics. I think the whole project cost about 70 bucks tools excluded, But I dont believe you can get much more out of a M5OD-R2/R1 transmission considering the obvious limitations and lack of perfomance parts. But for a good look why not?

Its tight for what it is with new bushings.

But as previously mentioned somewhere. This transmission doesn't like 4800-6500 RPM shifts.

A little action video for you.

How come your not screaming "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" ?

No lol. :icon_rofl: But my phone speakers suck.

I dont drive stick often, I dont take the mustang out much. But when I do I constantly make weeeeeeeeee sounds. I just assumed everyone driving a manual does this all the time?
