The engine temperature gauge in on my dash is not working anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, does my thermostat effect that gauge or is the thermostat just for the heater and so on...

Thank you in advance!

-stat controls the engine temperatures and that is where the ecu gets it info from in a round about way. I have a simular issue with the gauge (not one actually), but I got a kit from glowshift that ties into the upper rad hose and you mount a guage in the cab. They also have a sender system for the oil pressure system. Havent put in yet on to do list for christmas break.

Assume 1993 Ranger
What engine?
There were 4 models in '93

On the engine will be a temperature SENDER, not to be confused with a temperature SENSOR(2 wires)

SENDERs have 1 wire connected
They are at different locations for each engine

But if you can find the SENDER then remove the 1 wire connector
Get another wire and connect it to the SENDERs wire
Ground that wire, to engine or Battery negative

Turn on the key, leave engine off
Watch the temp gauge, it should go to full HOT with that wire grounded
If so then wire and gauge are good, replace SENDER

Thermostat controls coolant circulation thru the radiator, so no it won't cause no temp to show on gauge.
Low temp yes, or high temp yes, but no movement at all, no

Thank you for this answer. Yes I have a 93 and it is a 2.3 liter. One more question. I've looked online and youtube etc... but I cannot find the sender. Where is it located on my engine block?

Thank you again!

On the side of the block towards the rear under the intake manifold above where the dip stick tube enters the block.
