So today at work I learned that I am one sick puppy.

I've been doing a lot of diesel work lately, because we really need a second diesel tech and I'm the only one with the training who is dumb enough to say "I'll work on that".

Anyway, today I had to pull the intake off a 4.0 Explorer to replace the fuel pressure sensor and learned that I am suffering from a severe psychological issue.

Apparently I'd rather pull the intake off a 6.0 (a 2 hour job just getting it out) than off a 4.0 SOHC (a 30 minute job total).

Anyone know a good shrink?

Dr. JacK Daniels. :icon_thumby:

Sir....you are indeed sick. And I can tell you that, because I know.

Diesel work makes the day go by quicker tho....

I am my own shrink!!! I see things as the same way always...because I sing a tune........the tune to the Burger King commercials. I put my own lyrics in and I sing.....

'The Bigger the better the tighter the sweater...the sweaters are tighter
At Burger King'!!! Now you sing this a few times a day.....

Russ hour traffic jam
Waiting to see the doctor
Getting your teeth cleaned
Working on that car or truck
Can't wait to see that new babe you just asked out......

YEAH!!!!!!! Just Do it!!!!!!

If there is one car I would want to be good at it's the 6.0 they break an embarrassing amount there running out of warranty and people are willing to spend a lot of money on them.I'm not a mechanic but common rail technology is very interesting and to be good at it is being in demand.

If fixed right the first time around they are generally pretty reliable. Lots of times the issues are caused by dealerships taking short cuts with the repairs to these things (headgaskets mostly)

How can you make a gasket a shortcut? By not replacing it, or what? IMO, there's really only one what to prep & do it.

They try pulling it out like a magic trick...you know, with the table cloth on the set table...the mechanic leans over the hood, grabs a tiny edge of the gasket, and with one swift motion yanks the gasket out...

Now, to put a new one in...they just use that liquid metal stuff...and they apply it with a turkey baster...:icon_thumby:

The only problem with that is that the statement applies equally well to the whole week.

The 6.0 is actually a pretty good engine. The head bolts were a big problem at first, not enough torque, too much yield.

The turbos were problematic at first, but most of that was due to driving habits, and a lot of it has been fixed by teflon-coating the center.

The biggest problems we are seeing the the 6.0 right now is injectors going bad, and more recently heads have started allowing fuel into the cooling system. Not good.

It is fun work though. The problem now is that I have to decide, do my ribs hurt, or does my knee hurt when I get home.

My son's 6.0 in his 04 250 which he thought was studded isnt and the egr is about to take a dump so he wants to put the delete kit on it.
Thinks he can just install the stud kit one at a time and not replace the gasket,I told him he has lost his mind!

Sorry, studded? I don't really deal with anything but the late-build factory units.

Guys trying to do head gaskets on these things in place with an impact. To do it properly, the engine NEEDS to be out and on the stand to torque them properly, in the proper stages.

He means head studs instead of the factory bolts.

Head studs and an EGR delete make these things even more reliable.
