the best way to patch a hole

looking for some opinions, i need to patch a quarter sized hole in both of my pipes...what have you found that worked??? ive tried the muffler tape and all the bandage kind, someone suggested exhaust putty??? or mud??? i cant weld it cause i only have ac right now with no argon plus mu tig skills are lacking..any suggestions

Mud. That sounds like a fantastic idea.

Just make sure not to wash the truck for a few days.

a quick fix is to cut a beer or soda can down and wrap the pipe with it. then put a hose clamp, or 2, on it.

you may try grinding it down to bare metal and trying jb weld or some kind of apoxy? just let it set overnight to cure..you still may need to weld it later but for now it may work

ive tried all those, i blew a hole plum through the beer can and it was under myffler tape haha, the jb weld wont stay on

How about just replacing the exhaust peice?

The money you spend trying to patch it is better spent.

The patches will keep failing.

Check out replacement sections at your local parts store.

Or, you could just get some thin-ish metal that will bend in a cylinder, and do the hose clamp idea.

ive found that just about nothing short of "doing it right" will last for long when patching exhaust.

Give it a 50¢ piece and tell it to keep the change...

Other than that...depending on where the hole is...patching it is a temporary fix...and it may leak...you don't want that near the cab if possible...

well its right in front of my rear axle and its both pipes, someone welded it to hot and the hanger broke off taking peices of each pipe with it...im thinking of an exhaust shop today

if you don't want to replace the section of pipe, try a product called thermosteel. its like jb weld but is made to withstand very high temps. i used it on my egr tube that had a small hole in it. its been 4 or 5 months now and its still holding up. i tried jb weld before that and it only lasted a day.

damn wish you wouldve posted that yesterday took it to muffler bros. today because $67 was the cheapest i could find...sounds ungoldy awesome again though
