The Age Old Question

Hello all,

I have a 1995 Mazda B2300 single cab 2wd. That means I have front coils NOT torsion bars.

I currently have 14" wheels and 195's on it (factory size). Looks terrible...

Anyway, after I lifted my 2003 Tundra I put 33's on it and took off the stock tires 265/70R16 (30.6/10.4R16).

I would like to fit those 265's on my B2300. I have a few questions however;

1. I am assuming these tires will not fit without a lift, correct?

2. If it needs to be lifted, can I assume a 2" spring/block combo will be enough?

3. What is appropriate backspacing for wheels? 4"?

Thank you for all the help.

1. Tires should fit without a lift

2. A 2" lift is not all that bad to do for your truck. 1997 and older were not hard to lift. One thing to watch out for is some 2wd trucks actually used what equates to 2" lift springs for 4x4 trucks. One option if you can't determine the spring that is currently there would be to use what Ford called coil spring perches for the 1980-1995 F-150 (there should be a cheap lift option write up in the tech archives, might be under 4x4 suspension). For the rear you can do a block, Explorer leaf springs or chevy 2" drop shackles (they lift our trucks).

I want to say that Factory rims are something like 3.75" backspace. I think an article on rims in the tech archives talks about it

Thanks for the response!

Glad to hear they should fit without a lift. If I don't have to lift the truck i'm not going to.

I'll check out the coil spring perches, that's good to know. If I do end up getting springs however, i'll make sure to get 2wd specific lift springs.

Thanks for the info about lifting the rear as well! If I lift the truck I think I will go with the Explorer leafs.

You are correct about factory backspacing being 3.75. That is hard to find with aftermarket wheels so 4" will have to be close enough.

Thanks again.

just to add to this, my 94 mazda b2300 with 30" tires, dont remember the back spacing, but fit without a lift. Suggest regearing to move with a purpose....or just do a 4.0 swap.
