The 4.0 v6 sohc is stronger and more powerful :)

Do you want to own a 2.8, how is the 2.8 weaker than the 2.9, what would be the difference between a carburated and fuel injected ranger.
2.8 has exhaust hot spot. Valve order (I for intake, E for exhaust) I-E-E-I-I-E. So, 2 exhaust valves, side by each. The hot spot limited the power the engine could develop.

The 4.3 V-6 gets better fuel economy and makes its power at lower rpms which is more usable. Who wants to be reving to 5k rpms all the time. That is basically @rusty ol ranger 's complaint - 2.9 makes power at lower rpms which is where most people drive, so better driveability.
And Chevrolet has tons of aftermarket performance parts at relatively low cost; you could build a 4.3 with 50% more power than Ford for less money. But yes, the S10s were cheap.

You can also directly rip out a 4.3 and bolt in a 350. Try bolting a 351w in where a 4.0 once lived.

Vs the 4.0 SOHC the GM 4.3 has more displacement, more reliable since it is a push rod engine, and generally gets better fuel milage. The S10 trucks they but them in were pure junk compared to a Ranger though.
How much more displacement does the 4.3 v6 vortec have over the 4.0 v6 sohc, how is the 4.3 v6 vortec more reliable in your opionon, how much more fuel mileage. How were the s210 trucks pure junk compared to a ranger. chevy is my 3rd favorite and dodge is my 2nd favorite i was born around fords :)

The old square body S10 trucks were OK, can’t stand the 2nd gens. Worked on a few and just hate them. Rust, electrical problems like crazy and plastic interior parts that crack and fall apart. Same for the full size trucks from around 2000, total garbage. Great drivetrain swap donors and nothing else.

Just remember, what’s good for GM is good for the country. GM told us so. ;)

You're just getting that broke in good :D
That's the same color pattern of the 88 I had but mine had a lot more rust. It was flat out given to me, I spent the first two months with a chipping hammer and a wire brush underneath it, and used countless cans of Wmart cheapo spray paint.
It had a new motor, I'm just not certain which one it was. He gave me the title for the motor, I guess I left it with the truck. Sold it cheap due to rust and frame weakening after getting my 93 tweaked, and getting moved

The Chevrolet 4.3 V-6 was essentially just a 5.7 (350) V-8 minus two cylinders.
Right.

Wont the 454 bolt up to? Im thought it would but not sure.

Its generally accepted that the 2.9 is the peppier of the two engines.
Was that in the list of questions the Tide marketers were asking house wives?

I can just imagine the survey.

"Mam, do you use Tide or Gain?"

"Dawn or Palmolive?"

"2.9 or 3.0?"

Right.

If it physically fits, it should. For years the small-block and big-block Chevrolet V-8s used the same auto transmissions, so the bell housings should be the same.

Ford has had such a crazy selection of different V-8s over the years (FE/FT, MEL, Cleveland, Windsor, 385/big block, Modular) that I'm not sure what bolts and what doesn't.

C's and W's interchange. The 335 (351M/400) will interchange with the 385. I dont believe the FE interchanges with anything. Same for MEL
