Well after a brief 4-year break, LOL. Life happens and shit gets busy. I am finally back in the shop playing with this old danger ranger.
Update: I pulled the 2.9 out and tore it down thinking it was a waste of time but to my amazement I discovered this engine truly only has 44,000 miles on it, which is what shows on the odometer. The valves were toast due to lack of maintenance. After getting into the bottom end, i was surprised to find little to no wear and absolutely no flop. Completed the tear down for further inspection and found no reason to trash this engine. So, with this I decided to resurrect the 2.9. I have had the heads reworked with all new valve train components, replaced timing chain, gears and guides, new high flow oil pump and pick up.
I did get the 4.0 pulled out of the 94' explorer and it's still hanging on the engine stand. Waiting me to decide WTF I am going to throw it into!
