Terrible Steering SAS Ranger

I'm confused on toe plates and what caster is too light means.

The 2* and 7* bushings you mentioned are adjusting your caster. Sounds like you should have kept the 7*.

Also..I hope you installed shocks after the picture was taken.

I know what caster is i'm just confused on which way the axle should be pointing.

I will try to adjust the toe again using steel plates or something straight on the tires.

Also, that was an old picture. I have all 4 shocks installed!:)

You want about 6-10* of caster(top knuckle facing toward the rear) for optimal steering response...

Thats what I thought it was but wasn't sure. I used toe plates and my toe in was about an inch too much. I adjusted it to 3/16" and the steering feels scary. I think it has to do with the 7* bushings

If your using the stock ra's and you have them mounted to the frame, that could be your problem. The 7* may not be enough with the ra mounted to the frame, you may have to either mod your arms or lower your mounts...

I have extended radius arms (I think they are 40-48" long) mounted about 2.5" below the frame. I'll take some pics.

Did you have caster correction built into the extended arms? If not, I'd be measuring your caster but it sounds like that's what your issue is...

My build is almost identical to yours except my rearend is a FW 9. Even your steering is the same of course.

I ordered the 7* but what came in were 4*, wondering if the 4* is what I need after all... Your results are definitely going to help me.

I built 10* caster into my arms and I still need 2* bushings. I would rather have 4* but it will make the pinion angle awful.

That's a very similar description of how mine drove. Have you checked the camber? Put a level on the wheel, vertically. Mine was actually so bad you could eyeball it off the back tire.

Is that an EB44 with 78-79 knuckles?

The camber looks off in my opinion. I didn't think you could adjust it so I left it alone.

The axle is a high pinion dana 44 out of a '77 f-150. It hasn't been shortened.

Get a piece of steel that fits on both edges of the wheel, put a level on it. I use a "smart tool", it tells degrees to the hundredths. Then they sell shims that go between the knuckle and spindle.
Also, dunno if your axle has it but the EB44 has provisions for eccentric upper ball joint spacers.

This is using the 2 degree c bushings. I swapped back to the 7's and I will test it out in the morning.

Any luck? Updates?
