I have a 2008 XL 2.3, auto trans, with 39,000 miles. I put on around 6000 miles a year. I have been using Motorcraft 5w20 oil and filters. Changing about every 5months. I'm considering going to Mobil 1 5w20, and going a year between changes, with my mileage running, as I said about 6000miles a year. Am I being smart, or foolish. I'd like to hear some opinions. Thanks.

Regardless of miles I think it is a good idea changing oil just to get contaminants out based on things I have read so if it weren't me I wouldn't change oil just to extend the interval to once a year. May be other reasons to switch and that is fine.

Full synthetic is supposed to be able to go for a year, and I'd believe that it can, but it costs a lot more per quart, and switching after the engine has some miles on it frequently causes oil consumption issues.

I would stick with synthetic blend and go 6 months between oil changes.
