I have a new (to me) 2003 Ranger. It replaced my '93 which lasted 250,000 miles and is still going strong.

I would like to change my cigarette lighter plug, and maybe the 12v accessory plug from constant hot, to switched by the ignition. Has anyone done this, and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Never done it, but I would just install a relay inline with the current wiring which is powered by the ignition switch. That'd be the least intrusive way of doing it, at least.

How about adding a new switched outlet and not molesting the factory wiring?

Thanks

Thanks for your input, they are both good ideas. I was actually thinking of using a relay from an existing source to switch them. When I get into it I'll keep good notes and post photos.

I'v already ahd the radio out to install my Explorer overhead console. This truck is so much easier to do stuff like that compared to my '93.

I'd run a new hot line for it, unless you know of some usable line that is a spare. Then just run a relay off an ignition line - the one that turns the radio on/off comes to mind as a good candidate.

or if you dont ahve an amp or sound system hooked up jsut use the remote turn on line comin out of ur radio, if its an aftermarket
