Went to the local pic n pull and snagged a used 2.9 and FM 145 today. I will be swapping in the 145 in the next couple of weeks and the same with the 2.9. Engine and transmission were out of an 89BII and my BII is an 87.

Are there any specifics I should know about before the swap?

The BII I have now has California emissions and the one I took the engine and trans from didn't. I grabbed the computer just in case.

I also have an automatic transfer case and the FM 145 didn't. Is there going to be any problem putting back the automatic transfer case?

Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

The FM145 is about 3" shorter then the A4ld/FM146/M5OD... you will need the right driveshafts.

I grabbed the rear drive line but not the front. Will that be shorter to?

On the side of the FM 145 there's a linkage connection for the standard transfer case. Do I remove the entire thing for the auto transfer case? There's a larger bolt head where the linkage swivels that goes into the side of the transmission. Do I remove that? Or can I leave the manual linkage parts in place when I put the auto transfer case back on?

I would keep the manual transfer case myself. If you keep the auto take the stuff off the side of the trans so it isnt in the way.

I have a good FM145 front shaft around somewhere. Make me an offer if you cant find one near you.

Thanks. I'm running to the wrecking yard to grab the front shaft I left on the ground
