So I got the typical head cracks and the motor has unknown mileage on it so I figured why not just put a new one in however I was offered a 3.0 in a trade for my subs and was wondering if it would be a direct bolt up to my 5spd trans and what else might have to be done to swap it out

I don't think the swap is a good one . You will need the 3L and transmission to do it. i had a problem with the heads on my B4000 and picked up a set with head bolts and gaskets from a guy on ebay. Installed them and no problems so far. Been 4 years.

So you think I should just get head studs and new heads? And a little more about the motor in question it's an 05 3.0 with 100k on it. Any idea if those heads will work on my 4.0

Sorry so long to answer. I would pull the heads and see how everything else looks. If all looks good i would put new heads on with new head bolts. Mine was a problem with the valves receding so i needed to add new rockers and push rods. All in all i think the whole thing cost just under 450.
