hello all,
I am not new to the ranger station but i am new member. I need help quick because my ranger is my daily driver and i am a typical broke college student.

I believe it is my steering gear box that needs to be replaced but i would like some confirmation on this.

Symptoms: unable to turn left past neutral but turns all the way to the right normally. It wont even turn left by muscling it. Fluid was a little low, but more fluid in it and still same thing. Luckily i was turning into a parking lot and was able to make it into a spot when this happened. and am about to get it towed to my apartment.

Do you guys agree its the gear box, and if so does any one have one in south jersey that i can buy or know of local junkk yards?? Thanks

I would suggest getting it home and put it up on stands to be sure what is wrong before throwing parts at it. It could be a jammed u joint in the axle to some other part that is not the steering box.

Good luck

Rich

where in south jersey? there are a couple of u pull it yards near vineland and also a few near williamstown

I figured out the problem....My front left u joint is snapped(which i knew about) and it was physically blocking the tire from turning left. Im thinking i could temporary hold the piece out of the way with some good ole duck tape or some sort of clamp. thanks for the input.

Ps. i go to school at rowan so i am close to both those towns. i will be looking for a front axle soon for a summer project.

Youn saved college boy some big bucks!

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRepped!

Make sure everythings connected. I know is sounds dumb but you never know.

Please don't use duct tape on anything that could affect steering.

Used to live in the Crossing myself, but never went to Rowan lol. There are a few u pull its not to far in Vineland. The ones in Williamstown are off Berlin-Cross Keys road going towards 73.

You should be able to find a front axle in one of them but I wouldnt use duct tape. U Joints are cheap enough for the time being. For less than the cost of a beer at Landmark (ok maybe 1 beer) you could fix her right up.

Thank you very much DG :icon_thumby:

That is the second funniest thing I've seen today. :icon_rofl:

Don't try to drive it until you at least pull the stub shaft out. If you go to that trouble take the whole thing out and have a joint pressed into it. So long as it's not buggered up beyond recognition.

If you need an axle, I'd bet there's someone nearer you, than I, that has one.

Be safe!

I was partially kidding about the duct tape haha. Its just hard doing anything when something goes on my truck due to lack of tools at school, but i should be able to figure it out from here. I really appreciate the responses guys. Happy easter!
