Stumbling off idle

i put a new started drive in mine and it worked just fine for about 3 years then one of the bearings or bushing gave out and burt the motor out. it took longer to get it out just about but i did have my dad helpin me that day

I went to Kragen today and bought a starter repair kit. I went home and took the starter out. After a good cleaning so I could see it, I put it on the bench and started taking it apart. I think that it must have been the original starter. The bushings were shot. The armature had a lot of wear as well and the brushes were almost gone. When I removed the front cover, one of the copper straps that connects the stator sides together was broken. I put it back together and went to Kragean and got a rebuilt 36 month starter. I went home and put the new one in. I did not even sound like the old starter! I pulled a spark plug and it smelled like gas and was sooty. I put the plug back in, started the truck and let it run for a good half hour. I have suspected that I have EGR issues for some time. I am going to pick and pull and pull the Christmas tree and sensors and put them in my truck. I am going to go thru everything from top to bottom. Does anybody have tips for pressure washing the motor as far as what to cover up and what kind of cleaner to use? If this truck will run with the way I treated it, it should run real well after I fix it up? When I was pulling the starter, I found the other fuel filter people have been talking about in front of the high pressure pump. Does the autoparts store even list that one? I will be working on the sagging rear end issue soon. I would like to get more travel for the miles of trails in my backyard and old ghost towns up here in northern Nevada?

I guess I need to run a test again. I changed the vacuum lines to the EGR, pulled the cap and rotor and gave them a good cleaning etc... but the truck still runs rich as hell? I need to get it to run until it get warm but I don't know if it will? All this trouble started when I put a fuel filter that was not clogged in? Now I am getting 35 to 40 psi at all times and this problem? I was standing there watching it run rough as hell, all of a sudden it seemed like a sensor or somthing opened up and it ran clean for a few seconds.

i have no idea but i heard that the map, if water or moisture get in it, will cause it to do all types of weird stuff, when it gets warmer im going to look at mine, on the high way its does fine except at 3100rpm, it tends to cut and miss if i back off or give it gas its fine. i think they are just goofy sometimes

I have decided to take another approach to this issue. I am going to take my pressure washer and claen the hell out of it. I will then put in new cap, rotor, plugs and O2 sensor. The truck has 135,000 on it. I will then take the page on testing everything from the TPI out from "broncoii' and go thru the whole setup?

have you ever cleaned the throttle body?? or checked your air filter?? look for the basics, it would suck to put all that money in it and it be something little, i had a miss and i replaced like 300 in parts and it was the dang ignition module

I'm not going to spend money that the truck does nor need. It needs a tuneup, I am going to clean the motor, I should put some valve covers on, and I am going to go thru the trouble shooting for all the sensors ete... clean wires. Its running like its not getting "enough" spark? Its just freaked me out that I ran great for a second when I worked on it last. I need to really get into how all this stuff works so I can fix it myself? At least if I have to take it to the shop he will have a clean motor to work on:no2:

I have been working on some side work, so my truck has been sitting there waiting for me. I am now going to get back into my fuel issue. I have a coworker and her husband worked as a profession on cars for years. I talked to him last night on the phone and told him what my truck was doing. He seems to think that my "33" egr code is the first place to start. He says the the vacuum for the FPR comes thru the controlling of the egr circut? He also turned me on to a fuel injection only repair book. I will spend some time studding the book and get back into it. I hope to turn my poor truck back into something good to drive. I have seven cars and only one runs at this time, that is sad. I am going to sell off some of my beetles to build on my truck once I can get it running.

I spent some quality with the truck this afternoon. Today was not to cold so I cleaned the motor. Before I did that I checked a few things. I went to my favorite store "harbor freight" and bought a vacuum pump/ gage. I put the FPR issue to rest, it does not have a leak. I moved to the egr circut. I tested the egr valve with my pump and it does not leak either. I check the solenoid on the fender well with the red and green hose. I believe they call it the "EVR"? I could blow thru it at the hose connections. My book is not clear if it is bad in this condition. I took two cumper leads and connected them to the wire connections and the battery. It would do nothing but the wire would get hot and somke "short"? I tried to get it running until warm. It will fire up but after it runs for a bit, the idle start to drop down. That is when It all goes to hell. It starts running rough and dies. It acts like it fouling out. If I let it sit for a while it starts up again? I did a test KOEO with the motor as warm as it would let me. I gat a "84" on the self test. On the next test I get a "33". This looks like it points to my EGR circut. How can I test the little black box the goes to the EGR? That part is a little pricey and I'm not sure that it is the problem?

I fixed my issue. I went to pick and pull and got an evp and a egr solenoid complete with the christmas tree. Put them on and as uaual the truck started up. Ran for could be 20 to 30 seconds and dies. Now I have checked the FPR for fuel in the vacuum line and it was clean. I bought a vacuum pump gage and the FRP did not leak vacuum. So I hooked up the prossure gage on the fuel rail. It starts up and then the gage pegged at more than 100 psi. I released the pressure and it started up again and did the same thing. I went to napa and bought a new FPR and the truck is running better than it did before. I want to go thru the rest of the fuel system and clean everything as well as replace all the rubber lines.
