my 98 xlt 2.5L automatic with 185k has recently started stumbling on take off from a complete stop and runs great other than that. It is more of a sputter and then it will take off and it only does it from a stop. I have recently changed the fuel filter, TPS, DPFE, and EGR valve. I have cleaned the MAF sensor and ran seafoam through the brake booster vaccum line and gas. only thing I can think of would be the IAC valve. when I fisrt start the truck the idle seems to bounce around a bit and doesn't seem to want to drop down very quick without hitting the gas pedal first. it seems to idle around 1000rpms. not positive this is the culprit and would like some opinions. i'm going to replace the PCV valve for good measure and see, but doubt its the problem.

My 2002 2.3L manual does the same thing. From a dead stop when you start moving it just starts sputtering/jerking. Like its shooting spurts of gas instead of a steady stream. Its so hard to explain exactly whats happening too...

yea mine will do it intermittently, and I have no idea why. I have no codes...

I have changed the EGR valve, IAC, DPFE, TPS, and cleaned the MAF Sensor as well as my throttle body. I'm thinking now it may be my EGR tube is broken (looks Roached anyways) which is allowing air in and its messing with my O2 sensors. going to get a new tube and see.

ok just changed my plugs and wires today, my hesitation is finally gone now. I used NGK Iridium IX plugs and BWD select wires. old wires and plugs only had 45k on them so i didn't think it was them. I'm going to replace my EGR tube anyways cause it looks pretty bad and the heat jacket is almost completely falling off of it.

don't forget that pcv valve. Cheap enough and can srew things up if it's stuck closed (or open).

Yeah, killjoy, what is up with a permanent fix on the lighter? If you permanently fix stuff like I do sometimes, that means it took a trip out the window at highway speed...
