I got a screw i just cant get out of the dash on a 1988 ranger ext cab it is a 4x4 moduel on the top of the dash it has two phillps screws and i can get one out but not the other and tryed different things whats the best way to get a stuck phillps screw out anyone ever had one stuck?

Is the head of the screw (where the screwdriver engages) stripped out? If it is you could try a vice grips to slowly turn it.

If there's enough room to fit a drill in that area you could also try screw extractors, you can pick up a cheap set from a hardware store for $5 or so.

Impact driver if it is not stripped out or partially stripped out.

After that, it will require a screw extractor and/or drilling it out (preferably using a left-hand spiral bit)

drill into the center of the phillips head screw, starting with a small bit. Only drill through the head. Progresively go to bigger bits till the head of the screw comes off. Then remove the housing and you will have the end of the screw exposed and you can take it out with a small pair of vise grips.

This works even better if you have some left hand bits to run your drill in reverse. That way if it grabs most times the screw will back itself right out.

Good luck with it!

you may also be able to take a hacksaw blade and make it into a standard screw if the head isn't countersunk.

it isent stirpped just i cant turn it with a screwdriver

Get something flat to put behind the head of the screw if there is room and lift up as you are removing the screw. Sometimes those clips that hold the screws in get broke or are worn out and just spin. Good luck with it!

Edit: Just went back and reread the original post... If it is stuck and wont turn try tapping the end of the screwdriver with a hammer.
