ok I had to replace the wheel bearings in my 93 ranger. While I was doing this I noticed that my auto hub was in bad shape. I went to the junkyard and picked up 2 auto hubs off of a 91 explorer( they said it would interchange) but now its stuck in 4 wheel drive. Any ideas?

My other hub was actually broke inside, and it has a tranny and transfer case out of a B2. Thanks

Now...are the hubs stuck in locked position or is the transfer case stuck in 4wd? Or both?

You may need to drive in reverse to get the AutoHubs to unlock themselves. Or better yet, replace them with manual hubs.

^^ I agree manual hubs are much better and more reliable.

yeah, try drivin in reverse to unlock the auto hubs........then drive to the autoparts and buy some manual ones:icon_thumby:

or you can go back to that junk yard and get manual hubs but you need a axle nuts too and you need a special dana 44 axle nut socket to get them off. and you need a specal dana 35 socket to get the axle nuts off your truck now

I'm 4x4 illiterate, so if I sound retarded then thats why. When I replaced the wheel bearings(front & rear) and rotor, I took a nut that had a keyway on it off with a pair of channel locks. Is that the axle nut, or is there more to it than that?

that is the nuts that you'll remove and not use again. I keep them so that when I have a stuck/rusted on spindle I thread that big nut onto the end (flange side out) and beat it with the hammer instead of the spindle threads. They can also be removed with a hammer and chisel if they are on tight (put yer safety glasses on. :) Then just buy the one big socket to install the new nuts, lock washer (the kind with little holes in it) and the thrust bearings. Don't forget to remove the little keyway lock piece (if it's still there) before removing the auto hub wheel bearing nuts.
