I'm new to this forum and I bought a 1995 4x4 Regular Cab body to build a project truck. It is now a 2wd with a 223 L6 engine from a 1964 F100. I'm using the 3 spd trans, and it will have AC and PS. The speedometer from the 95' is electronic and I need to have it manual. All the PCM componants are removed and it will be old school---all the way points ignition and a carb with a manual fuel pump. Do any of you guys happen to know if a cluster from a 93-94 with a manual speedometer fit the dash of the 95'? I'm open to suggestions and advice you like to contribute, thanks, Dennis.-------I'll post some pictures later.

93-94 dash is completely different than 95-97 dash. Nothing will interchange easily. I am not sure but I think there is a device that will convert mechanical to a digital signal. If not, you will have to make a new faceplate for your gauge panel and install aftermarket gauges.

Tinman---I thought about using all aftermarket gauges and speedometer, but I would like to keep the original look if I could. As far as a speedometer, I could use a GPS version. I may have to get a 94' cluster w/plugs and lay them side by side and compare them-----see if an interchange is possible. I bought the body from a guy in Chattsworth.

After this post I looked up both on ebay, and I see what you are saying---the shape of the clusters is completely different. I like the idea of making a faceplate and installing aftermarket gauges. I have the 95' cluster out, and I can cut one using it as a template, thanks.

Easy answer is to replace the cable drive at the back of the transmission with an electronic VSS from a (slightly) later Ford.

Very simple 2 wire install, with one wire the ground and the other going straight to the speedo.

Uses the same gear drive as the cable system so getting gears to offer and accurate speed reading is a snap.

Also, before Ford went totally electronic, they had a cable driven in-line VSS. Cable drive in and out, but with the VSS electronic signal functionality as well. Was Ford's interim solution for a mismatch between the mechanical and electrical needs of the speedo and cruise control systems.

Thanks for the info-----I noticed that the VSS drive looked like the old type gear drive, but didn't know if it would work in the old trans. I'll take your advice and go that way, Dennis.
