Strange Hesitation in Moderate-Heavy throttle

So my 1998 Ranger picked up an odd hitch in its stride so to speak. It started about 4 or 5 months ago and I've sort of been just living with it but its getting old. If I get on the gas fairly hard it has a short, jarring hesitation, at first I thought it was u-joint but everything checks out there. It doesn't seem to be a misfire because it only does it under heavy throttle conditions with no fault codes and runs just fine anytime else. It doesn't seem to be vacuum, I tried the carb clean on vacuum lines trick. And it doesn't seem like its a fuel pressure problem either. I've heard it might be a camshaft synchronizer problem, I guess it was a fairly common problem from 1990-2009 in most Ranger platforms.

Thanks in advance

I would get a old time meter with a needle, and hook it to the throttle position sensor. Slowly run it up and down and make sure it's smooth with no glitches. The TPS does seem to wear out over time.
