I've read a few different threads about tach hook ups unfortunately nothing specific to a 1990 model. If I understand it correctly a tach from an 87-91 bronco or f150 will plug into a ranger cluster and work just fine. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Solved the problem, I took the tach from a 1987 f150 , the face plate is slightly different, but is interchangeable, make sure you move the decal to the old face plate, then mount the tach mechanism from the f150 to the ranger face plate, it will mount perfectly, no recalibration is required. I also lightly sanded the backs of all the decals and removed the green tint, then installed red LED,s and viola, nice red display.
