Stock ohv cam Vs Comp 410

Would the change to a 410 cam be noticeable enough to justify doing the cam swap from stock? Will be finally doing my burnt valve repair very soon and considered a cam while it's all apart. Thanks.

I've got one in my truck and I'd have to say no. That said it is a 4wd truck with oversize tires so it isn't really operating in the powerband of that cam. Everything else on the truck is stock and haven't had the truck tuned for the cam. I'll be dropping the truck beck down to stock height, and if I add a better flowing exhaust and a tune that might change.

If I were to do it over again with my over sized tires and stock 4.10 gears I would probably stay stock. If I were to be working on a 2wd truck or regeared the 4wd truck to match the new tires, I'd probably go with the bigger comp cam (422?). Problem with the bigger cam is that it requires more supporting work (valve springs, machining heads, etc.) and hurts low end power.

when i built up a 4.o with the 410 years back i did notice a difference in the acceleration. there is more grunt in it. Have you thought about getting a custom ground cam shaft from your original? I would have done this if I knew about it before hand.

I've tried to contact delta cams about their regrinds, but haven't had a response. I really love the way the 422 sounds but both cams are still options.

I just sent Colt Cams an email after you posted. Maybe hear back tomorrow.

Called Colt Cams today. They offer an "extreme low torque" cam and a "mild performance" cam. $179/$199 regrinds.

Delta offers a copy of comps 422 cam for $139 plus core. Anyone use they're cams?

I have used colt 3 times, they have ground my 2.8 pinto cam, my 302 build cam and they did a grind for a diesel cam where i work. they are 20 miles from me so it is easy to drop off a stick there.

Have Comp 988-12 springs ordered. Looking for valves now. I hear the SI valves are the go to, but $15-16 a valve adds up fast. I've found DNJ valves on rock auto. Anyone have experience with them?

Nobody used delta before? Their price of $139+tax is very appealing. But want to get some input before I decide to go that route or not.

So, the 410 cam gives a bit more grunt and is fairly a plug and play I gather.

But does it retain or improve the famous low end torque? I've heard most mods for the OHV give more power at the cost of low end torque. Any truth?
