My Ranger is still running rough. From idle all through its RPM range. I have replaced the coil packs, plugs and wires. The little truck only has 70k on it. Checked the timing belt and it is fine, also the timing is ok. I have checked the compression and it is within specs. This truck is irking my taters. I am getting fire on all 8 plugs. I have only had the truck for a couple weeks. But what can I expect for $200.

check emissions equipment, runnin rough how? missing sputtering?

missing and sputtering thru the whole rpm range does'nt feel like a timing miss also the truck hunts on an idle

Believe it or not, I did a search online and read it could be a faulty alternator. Not the charging part of the alternator but the regulator part where the diodes are. Taking it in for a test at your local auto parts store still may not show the problem as it's not a charging system problem.

Supposedly, it's throwing stray AC current through the wiring and messing everything up. I just had an experience with code P0340 (cam sensor circuit) and it was doing what you're describing. I swapped alternators and the sputtering during driving went away, and at idle it's very random now. The CEL came back on though after a day with the same code.

I just cleared the code again yesterday and it's still off at the moment so wish me luck. Right now I'm just checking all grounds before digging into my harness or swapping out the PCM. I have a replacement harness though if I need it. Let me know what you find out.

Do you have a CEL on?

mine did this when i got it, i had a tube on teh bottom of the throttle body(vacuum)that went to the carbon canister was 100% clogged and took me 3 hrs and gal of gas to clean it. it helped but didnt fix anything, I was able to narrow it down mroe though. And I realized my number 1 nd 4 points on my primary coil werent firing, when this happens the truck goes into a limp mode preset 10* timing, check everything that applies to the ignition from teh battery to the dis, to the plugs. including ground wires. One piece at a time and step by step make sure it matches the haynes manual and youll find it.
