Folks,
My buddy's 1988 Ranger, 2wd, 2.9L engine has a stripped steering intermediate shaft - the internally splined joint that mates to the externally splined shaft on the steering gear must have loosened, and now the splines on both the steering gear and the intermediate shaft are destroyed.
I know I need to replace the steering gear, but I can't seem to find a new steering shaft.
Here's what I was thinking - I found a steering shaft from a 1987 ranger with manual steering. I want to steal the end joint off this shaft and bolt it to the existing power steering shaft (I have to replace the rag joints, anyway).
Is the end joint on the manual steering shaft the same as the end joint on the PS shaft - i.e same number of splines and bolt pattern for the rag joint?
Thanks!
