Hello there.

I have a 97 ranger and have recently had problems cold starting it. It will start, then stall out, does this about 3 or 4 times, then finally will catch, but chokes itself to almost a stall, and revives itself to normal. Once it is warmed up, seems to work fine. Leave for a few hours, or over night, same problem all over again.

I had it to the mechanic, who said he checked all the sensors and the fuel system, but he couldnt seem to find anything wrong with it.

Please help.

This sounds like a common IAC problem. Do a search IAC and you'll find a lot of topics covering the system. (Sorry I'm at work right now and can't spend too much time on here).

Intake Air Control valve is located at the rear of the throttle body, by the firewall. Pull it, clean it with TB cleaner and re-install it. It does have a electric solenoid attached to it, so you may want to check that out, and see if it's getting a signal to turn on.

Can fuel pressure leakdown cause this issue as well? I've noticed similar symptoms with mine with about 95% of cold starts. It usually only happens on the first start and either stalls, or bogs down almost to the point of stalling before picking back up again. When I check my fuel pressure, its fine as long as the engine has run recently. However, if the truck sits for a day or more, the fuel pressure is 0. It comes back up immediately, but appears to be leaking down when it sits.
