I would do an inspection of the rear main seal before recommending replacement. They can last 500,000 miles without leaking, tho I haven't gone that far. Half on a Vulcan, and it doesn't leak.
If it is seeping, and there's a trail 'washed' down the backside of the pan, then definitely do the seal. If it is dry, you have more chance to make it leak by disturbing it. Getting one in place is not 'delicate' but you do have to be careful, get it in straight, and get it to slide over the crankshaft surface without popping the spring.
I may just be lazy, but I wouldn't do one unless it was needed.
