starter question

i have a 1991 2.9l ranger auto and i am wondering if a starter off a 1994 4.0l explorer auto would fit?

I think it will. You may have to make some custom wiring for it though.

it will fit, and it will need to be rewired. in the tech library there is an article about putting a 4.0 clutch on a 2.9, your wiring will be the same as the wiring in that article.

What I did when I wired my 4.0 starter on my 2.9L I just ran two wires from the starter relay's rear post to the starter. thats easier than the tech article makes it look.
