Starter kept running

Hello me bronco II 2.9 auto starter messed up. I went to start it at work and the start kept runnging with the engine off key off. I had to unhook the battery.I then hit the starter and it stoped. I tryed to start it and started with the starter running also. It sounded bad. I had to leave it at work. What would cuase this? Is it the starter or silonaid relay? After I started it and the started stayed running it was dead my lights wouldn't even come on.

this happened to one of my cars a while back... you need a new starter

it happened to me too. i ended up replacin the starter. but that didnt help. changin the starter solinoid fixed my problem
