hey all my 87 broncoii shit the starter yesterday so i bought a new starter no biggie right ...wrong apparently before i got it someone striped the threads in the bell housing and just filled it with silicone. And now the bolt will not tightin enough to keep the starter aligned right ....So what is my best course of action to fix this the right way ???? please help !!

yeah, to helicoil you need to drill it out, tap it, then install the coil. Seems like one of mine had a longer bolt with a nut on it, not sure if that would work for you.

You can allways try using a longer bolt the threads are usually pretty deep in the bellhousing. Get a bolt about an inch longer and run it all the way in until it bottoms out and then measure how much you need to cut off. 5 or 6 threads will allow you to torque it down but the more the better. It is worth a try beats pulling the tranny to install a helicoil?

tryed this it didnt work out for me just not enough thread left

starter bolt holes

not sure if you have the room to drill out the bell housing holes /// my truck has body 3in lift lots of room with right angle drill use longer bolts easy fix

Why not use a peice of all-thread and JB Weld it into the bell housing. Then install the starter with a lock washer. Then trim the excess off the "stud" with a cut off wheel.

Easy peesy lemon squeezy
