Twice now my engine has sputtered like it would if you were running out of gas but it only does it for 10-20 seconds and there was 500 miles of driving between them. I've had a full tank each time it was happened, check engine light does not come on, put a new fuel filter on, new oil, and checked fluids. Do you guys have any idea what's going on? It's a 95' with a 2.3 and is OBD2

Howdy and welcome to TRS~!

Could be a number of things but sounds like it could be the first indication of fuel pump malfunction. Your 95 engine requires 30-40 PSI of fuel pressure and if the pump is going it could start with a few infrequent misfires.

Not much you can do about that other than check the fuel pressure. It could also be the Inertia switch is about to go out but that is much less likely.

TRS has a great resource for technical issues that you can find at the link below. The link for the Engine and Fuel Systems and read up on some of the possibles.

There are also quite a few knowledgeable regulars who will be happy to offer more advice as needed.

If the sputtering occurred when climbing a long grade, for example, where the demand for fuel would be greater than normal level-ground cruising, you may have a pump that is starting to lose its capacity, a clogged fuel filter, a pickup 'sock' that has started to clog, or any other thing that would reduce fuel supply volume. A pump can test good for pressure, but lack volume capacity.
In addition, another possible cause is loss of power or ground to the fuel pump, or the relay that operates the pump. The computer signals the pump relay to close, and power is fed through, at least, the rollover switch, to the pump motor. Any problem with wiring could interrupt power to the pump(or ground).

I've checked the fuel pressure and it is good, I'm cleaning the mas airflow sensor today to see if that will help at all

I wonder if a full tank had anything to do with issue. ? Plz post follow up TIA :D
