speedometer does not turn

1999 ranger 3.0
switched gauge console on the truck with a used one, with almost the same miles. The tach temp and gas seem to be working. Not so sure about volt and oil. The odm does not turn, I switch the removal card on the install after a driving test I saw that the odm was not turnig, so I switch back the card and still not turning. Someone told me that I might have to have the unit flashed. Please help

Just checking I believe that the used console was in good working condition, do not want to take it all apart if it not a bad gear. I thought that the unit has to be flashed so you just can't switch one out with lower miles. Has anyone else heard that to.

Not on the older ones. If the speedo works and the odometer doesn't. it's the gear.

Great call Bert, check gear and found that one side of the clear plastic holding tab that holds the tiny motor that turns the gear had broke off. Had to use thin wire to hold in place, works great know. Thanks Bill
