So i pulled apart my speed cable today, well, pulled it out of the trans.

Found the driven gear kinda chewed up, and the clip missing. I hooked the gear/cable into my drill and spun it and the cable seems to be fine as my drill spun it up to 55 with no problems.

The gear inside the tranny felt a *little* valleyed out...but its wore pretty even.

My questions are...

1- Is there different size/style retainer clips for the driven gear...or are they all the same?

2- Why is my speedo completly dead after i reassembled? Lol.

2-

Did you try spinning the gear with your drill, while attached to the cable?
Maybe the interface is broken

Not sure on the clips but I think they are just Ford, all the same

Yes. I spun the gear and all in the drill.

Then I guess the driveshaft and tail shaft are coming off, lol

Drive gear would be the only thing that would fit the issue now
I think the 2wd manuals and 4x4 transfer cases all used 7 tooth Drive gear, but not sure in 1987

When i spun it with my drill i just took the end of the driven gear and chucked it into the end of the drill, the teeth on the driven gear are pretty screwed up.

I do have the tailshaft gear, but im going to change the easy shit first and try to get lucky. Lol.

Can i even get a tailshaft seal for a toyo kogyo anymore?

Sorry, I thought you replaced the Driven gear already, then that one first
