Anyone else going to the SOC event at Brushy Mountain state penitentiary? We will be.

Is it just me... or... does having any event at a penitentiary seem kinda odd?

Do you have a link for this event?

i was thinking the same thing, i don't know if i want to go to that one, ha ha ha

I saw the announcement a while back. I need to check again and see how the timing works out.

It's actually a cool place, just a few miles from WindRock ORV Park. They do tours and I think there is a distillery or microbrewery on-site. It was all closed when I visited a couple years back. Pictures in my WindRock video.

That's the weekend that I'm going to Outer Banks with Overlander Project. Won't make it this time.

I don't have... and never will... a Facebook account. So I couldn't open the link...

I guess it makes more sense that it's a closed down facility... with tours and even a distillery.

It's public and you can access it w/o an account. You just can't 'participate' in discussions. I now, big deal right? Anywho, just close the sign-in prompt when presented and then go to the 'Discussions' section.

Hope it helps?

That's funny. Camping at the pen. Anytime I get anywhere near a prison I always see a sign that cautions people that there's a prison in the area and not to pick up hitchhikers.

That prison is in a cool place. It's basically in the closed end of a valley with steep sides. I imagine that in It's hey-day, the surrounding hillsides were trimmed fairly clean. It would be very slow climbing for an escapee and gaurds would have excellent opportunities for shooting. Dogs would make quick work of capturing someone.

Don't they call those closed in valleys, Hallers?

Well, if anyone is going, message me if you like. I would like to get at least a few Rangers together.
