I'm new on here, and I'm sure the question has been asked multiple times, but since on on my phone and it sucks for this type of thing, I'm just going to ask. I am the proud new owner of a 97 B4000 se 4x4 with the automatic. What I'm wondering is, my truck starts idling rough and bucking and jerking at a stop. Most times I have to throw it in neutral and keep it about 1500 rpm to keep from stalling. I put a new idle air control valve in it, but that didn't work. I'd like to avoid replacing everything right nowbut as it is my daily driver, id like to get it taken care of as soon as I can. The engine light is on also as well if that helps.

Well Welcome Aboard!

The fastest and easiest way to diagnose this thing is get to your nearest Autozone or such and see if they will pull the codes off the ECM for you. With the trouble codes in hand, post them here, and I'm sure someone will be able to steer you in the direction of a fix in no time.

We could speculate for weeks as to what is causing your idle problem, but the codes generally tell you where to look immediately.

pull your engine code any let us know. we can tell you from that code. gonna guess its a MAF sensor, try unpluging it and starting the truck. any better?

Excellent job creating a good signature on your very 1st post:icon_thumby:......you might want to add Mileage, tranny, etc

I agree, pull the codes. I also would start bringing the maintenance up...this usually fixes this type of issue..MAF would be my guess too.......clean TB, MAF, fuel filter, pcv, air filter, vacuum hoses, plugs, wires, etc

Hooked up to a scan tool at work, no codes popped up, and I cleared whatever was there. Still doing it though, like I said, only thing I've done so far is the iac. Only had it about a week now, so I haven't got too far on maintenance type stuff yet, but will be getting it done over the next few weeks.

Seemed to be the maf, unplugged it, drove it, much better. Thanks so much guys.
