tried to start my truck and the glow plug light was flashing continuously and the imobiliser light was flashing in a sequence.

it takes a while to get the engine to fire. i can also hear a relay clicking in sequence with the imobiliser light and a clicking from the diesel stop solinoid.

ive replaced the relay and checked the earthing. anyone got any sugestions? want to get this fixed as soon as i can incase it wrecks something else.

The flashing glow plug light might be telling you that you have a bad glow plug, or something is not right in the glow plug circuit. If it is like my Grandpa's 1983 it is supposed to go out once the glow plugs are up to temp, which is usually 3to 5 seconds.

I would test to see that you have power to all of the glow plugs. If you have power to all glow plugs, test each individual plug.

Not sure what the immobilizer light is or what it is for....

Hope this helps,

AJ

Not sure what the setup is on your 99, we don't have the small diesel engines here in the US Rangers anymore (discontinued in 87 I think) depending on where the wiring harness is located and how much crap you have to remove you might be able to individually test power to the glow plug by unhooking the connecter and using a multi meter and activating the glow plugs. you should have power at each connector. Testing the glow plug themselves, you might be able to put an ohmmeter on the terminals to see if it is an open circuit, if so, bad glow plug. then check to see if you have a short to ground by putting one of the ohmmeter leads on the terminal and one on the engine block, I would assume that both terminals should *not* be shorted to ground, but you might want to get a service manual or even call your ford dealership service department and ask. if nothing else, you will probably have one glow plug that will behave differently from the other 3. that is the guy you want to replace. if one is bad, you might want to replace all of them, but from what I remember from Grandpa's 83, he paid quite a bit of money to have them replaced..

Yeah, not only do we not have the small diesels on in the states, I can't even get the service info in English. I can open up the manuals for the SA trucks that have it, but they are all in Spanish.

thanks for the help guys. gonna try to test them possibly tomorrow or at the weekend. wish me luck

my trouble for getting manuals is that i can only find the ones for the US trucks

Codes would help.

tried to get the codes but it doesnt seem to be sending anything to the plug.

the only place i havent taken it is my local ford dealer but they are a rip off. one of the worst garages around. overpriced and they havent got a clue what they are doing. i know more than them and thats saying something.

Do you have something similar to Autozone or O'Reilly's near you? Here in the states Autozone and O'Reilly autoparts will pull the codes for free.

i think the closest place we have to that is halfords and its more a car polish and stereo store. the kind of place the boy racers like to buy their muffler tips and go-faster stripes for their vauxhaul corsas. i think opel or chevy corsa in the US

I'll throw this out there. Is the diesel made by somebody else like volvo? Could they help you.
