Someone please help!!

What's the spout connector?

What's the spout connector? Is that the connector with the single yellow wire running through it. If so that's the wire that was frayed I cut the connector and spliced the ends back together. I believe that's the wire for distributor advance. All the connections are on and snug including iac, the jets aren't clogged and I'm pretty sure the cat isn't either. Should I try pouring raw gas down the throat of the carb so I can rule out fuel? Because the only other fuel component I could think of being the problem is the accelerator pump but like I said I'm not carburetor savvy

I don't have a tachometer or a timing light so I can't tell where the timing is at 2k. A friend set the timing the other day at 10 degree BTDC but this was done almost a week after the problem persisted, and the day before I reconnected the broken yellow (advance) wire

I told ya before! The timing is waaaay off! Ya need to take that splice apart and set the timing and then...ONLY THEN splice it back together!
It is IMPOSSIBLE to set the timing with that wire intact! The spout connector MUST be pulled to set the timing!!!

And I said the timing was set before I even fixed the advance wire...

Reading what you wrote, you need a timing light to help you get I right.

???

We be try'n to help here!!! I betcha the timing is WRONG! That is about all that will cause the problem you are saying... Ya need to do it AGAIN.

That's fine. And I understand you're trying to help and I appreciate the gesture. But I don't see the logic in ignition timing just changing as I'm driving down the road and everything is snug and secure. Ill reset the timing with a timing light again, even though I just did it the day before I fixed the advance wire. I set it at ten degrees btdc.

There are alot of things that cause your symptoms. Timing , compression and vacuum. Without a good tune up your just guessing the plugs, wires, cap and rotor are good as well as the PCV. You need to do all of these before the codes mean anything. Of course you may get lucky your engine will appreciate some good prevantive maint. At least check the compression when the engine is warm and check the timing while it is gettin up to temp. If you fail the compression test your just spinning your wheels.

Ok ill do a compression test but the motor sounds healthy. The pcv and egr are good ivpppi took the egr and cleaned it well it wasn't sticking. Ill replace the cap and rotor

In conclusion, it ended up being a clogged catalytic converter. thanks for all those that helped!:icon_thumby:

Glad you posted the eventual fix. Sounded like a plugged cat to me with the rumbling noise and all, but I came along too weeks two late!
