I'll be doing it the supercharged way, since i've got a friend with an M90.

that said, what do i need to do on a zero mile motor to get it ready for a supercharger?

i'm not going to be running massive boost, just something to pep it up a little bit.

shooting for at least 220hp.

is that attainable? will it break the engine?

220 hp out of a 2.9? I wanna see that.

you can get 300 out of a turbo 2.3

i see no reason i can't get 220 out of a supercharged 2.9

Turbos and superchargers are a completely different ballpark. You can get 700 hp out of a honda civic with enough boost and a big enough turbo. Ever watched Pinks?

id say bigger injectors and a good tune. if i was putting together an engine with boost in mind id probably start with forged pistons and a good set of rods at the least.

The Euros are cranking out over 400hp with turbo 2.9s... Good luck, a lot of people say they're going to boost their engines but most never do.

Didn't you just get a reman crate engine?

If so, it will be splattered all over... sure they get 300+ out of a little four banger, but they are built for it.

I think that 200hp out of a s/c 2.9L may be attainable with the right pulley and right mods. I wouldn't do it on a brand new engine though; just in case it gets killed and you'll be out $$$ because it was not built for what you're trying to do.

JP3 used a MAF computer on his turbo Ranger project, but I can't see it reasonably running right at idle with larger injectors. Talk about tunes all you want, let me know when you find someone who can re-flash the PCM at a reasonable cost. Best bet would be an after market engine management system.

Were you the one that bought the M90 "kit" I had?

no, didn't buy your kit, but a friend of mine has an M90 that needs a home, so this is what i was thinking.

don't suppose there's any chance in hell of strapping an M90 to a lima?

You COULD, but it would be pointless to mate an M90 to a 2.3 as 2.3 turbo manifolds are a dime a dozen.

I also would not boost a crate 2.9. If you wanted a supercharged 2.9, you would have needed to decide that BEFORE buying a motor. I would have gotten my hands on a good block, and called up Morana, then started from there. Since you already bought the motor - I'd buy a cam, springs, and read up here in the tech library about modding 2.9s. Just go with a mild build.

the motor isn't finished being built yet, but it has been ordered.

i'm preplanning what to do with it

I can still get you that cam and lifter set. It's the most aggressive cam you can run in a 2.9 without swapping to MAF.

do i need the lifters with the cam? they were going to replace those anyway.

how much for the cam?
