Snot and other problems

Thanks for the advice guys.

I check my dipstick weekly, not daily, but I've never seen any bubbles or anything that looks out of the ordinary.

The snot is white-ish in color but I'm pretty sure it all gets blown out when I drive it more than 10 miles (only drive 7 to work everyday).

The previous owner somehow messed with the idle and it never idles at or below 1000 (usually at 1100 or 1200). But i haven't noticed any really rough idle problems.

What are people's thoughts on how to further diagnose? I just want to make sure before i get super-bummed :icon_confused:

just drive it till it gets bad. one of my rangers loses quite a bit of coolant regularly, burns it up. its been like that for 2 years now. save up for some good heads and put them on when you are ready.

The computer controls the idle - need to check the base idle voltage at the TPS and check if there are any vacuum leaks, because a vacuum leak will cause a high idle as well.

alright I'm doing the diagnostics tonight (finally!):headbang:

anyone know which kit I need for an 87 ranger/bII? I think it's EV1 but not sure... Thanks!

not sure which kit you'll need, you might be wise to contact that place that you're getting the injector kit from...to get the correct one.

ford color coded their injectors....if that helps you. Going to the larger, or next size won't make things better. In fact, it can make things worse in some cases. the 2.9 doesn't need huge amount of fuel.

Turns out the previous owner left the cap for the fuel filter empty. So I put in a new one yesterday. I'll add a can of seafoam and see if that helps!

It looks like my main problem is the #1 injector is clogged. We'll see if I can't clear it without removing it.

So I ordered injectors from RJM Injection technology. They've been really bad at responding to emails so I ordered the kit that looks most like my injectors. I think that I've got 14lb injectors and the kit is for 19lb injectors. Would there be any difference in the filters or o-rings between the 2 different injectors?

Also: Can anyone else recommend a vendor that sells these kits? Everywhere else i saw them for at least $40 for just the o-rings pintle caps and filters.

I ordered the EV1's which look like the 19lb injectors.

Does your Ranger miss when it loses quite a bit of coolant regulary, as you mentioned, and burns it up?

Does a product called Blue Devil engine coolant stop leak, stop a cracked head from leaking, as it's advertised to do, as this stuff sells for $60 bucks a quart.

If it will stop a head leak it should also first stop up a radiator..
