small quiet indoor circulation fan

My house is old and the main heat source is the wood insert fireplace in the living room, air doesn't flow through the threshold to the kitchen very well especially with the beam in the ceiling just in front of the opening... Years ago I found a small ~6" desktop fan at goodwill that I rigged to the door trim to the kitchen... well that fan has had bushing issues for the last couple years and the oil is out of the oilite bushings... any oil I add to it gums up within two weeks... this one looks like a mini oscillating fan and I just bent up some coat hangar wire to clip onto the door molding but for the right fan I'd drill holes somewhere...

Anyone have luck with anything that doesn't break the bank? I don't want something that's loud, something in the 6-8" diameter with a wall mount bracket or something would be perfect... I have 7' ceilings (like I said, old house...) hence the small fan requirement, a 16" fan would take up too much real-estate, the 6" is barely noticeable in the corner of the door frame (no door, ~5' or less wide threshold). I poked around Amazon and everything is either huge, $200, or for camping so far or sounds like it would be too loud... I know I'm looking for a fan in the wrong time of year but I don't think about heat in the summer

I’ve got a little Honeywell desk fan in my office at work. It quiet, pretty strong, small, and cheap (under $20). It may work for you.

I like the Vornado. It is a little loud, but pretty quiet on low and still blasts air. Also not expensive.

Its loud on high, but is also a bit much, I run it on the lowest setting 99% of the time and its pretty quiet. I am biased though as I have crappy hearing and also don't mind white noise.

Do you have a central A/C system? If so, turn the thermostat to "fan only". That will distribute the warm air throughout the whole house.

I rarely need a heater, a small space heater and fireplace does it.
Air circulation is key...I run ceiling fans and sometimes the vornado next to the fireplace, which really warms it up.
My battle is usually fighting the heat. Air conditioning is vital. A fan will do nothing when its 100F+ and 4% humidity.....Although a swamp cooler really helps in such dry heat.

I'd kill for humidity that low when it hits 100 here in SC. Try 60-90%

The house was built in 1913, it does not have central heating , thinking of adding a mini split at some point...

That's not a bad idea, and I know they work for decades, small with high output and low wattage, some almost silent. I have a box full I'll likely trash for copper bearing prices. A 12V electric transformer would power a dozen probly

I think fans are the best thing you can add for heating and AC, both for economy and performance
