My credo
If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
So for years now I've been fighting to stay awake for long periods, heck I sit in the recliner and 20 mins later I'm out cold, so I talked to my doctor and she set me up with a sleep study. I did a at home test but it came back inconclusive which puzzled me when they wanted me to go in to do one there. This time they hooked me up to a C-PAP machine and what seemed to be 25 wires just to find out that I have sleep apnea. When I came home from the test I felt so much more energetic than I have in years.

I knew what it was but I didn't put three major things together that were tattle tail signs: Waking up gasping for air, Waking up huffing and puffing like I was exercising and always tired. After the study was complete the technician said I definitely needed more air especially when I slept on my back. I'm now waiting on a home machine so that I can sleep better at home. Considering I stop breathing at night for periods of time there is no wonder that I am always tired and pass out quickly when I sit down and relax.

If you find your self with these symptoms please consider having the study done.

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts. If you snore loudly and feel tired even after a full night's sleep, you might have sleep apnea.

Signs of the disorder:

Waking up with headaches
Waking up gasping for air like you were startled awake
Waking up huffing and puffing for air like you were exercising
Falling asleep at inappropriate times like during a conversation while you relax as an example
Loud snoring
Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
Difficulty paying attention while awake
Irritability

I kind of get a kick out of the Irritability... No I don't have sleep apnea I just need to deal with stupid. :icon_rofl:

Some of my buddies have it, as do many of the guys at work. They all say the same thing, that they hadn't slept like that in years after getting a cpap. Seems the technology has come a long way too. Anyways, its pretty common around me....maybe its all the LA smog. These guys seems its either a deviated septum, or being overweight.

I have it, can't sleep on my back because I'll stop breathing lol. I refuse to get a cpap gizmo though, I just sleep on my side and I'm usually fine.

I've used a CPAP for 3-4 years and it makes a big difference. I use it every night because that's the only way to get used to it.

I got a buddy that takes his camping and runs it off a power inverter.

I had it. They removed my tonsils and adenoids. That fixed most of the snoring (I don't rock the house now) and I don't wake up gasping for air.

I thought that snoring is normal especially if you are tired.

To a certain level. Certain conditions can make it worse. If you are making the house shake and wake up because you can’t breathe, that is not good for long term health. Sleep apnea can cause all kinds of health issues and thus why it’s a big deal.

My allergies make mine worse. All the the smoke from the fires out west have started hitting the east coast which hasn't been great.

Older guy I work with had done a sleep test, and they recommended a c-pap machine. He tried it for a couple days and decided it would be easier for him to loose 20-30lbs then to keep using the c-pap. I guess he figured if it helps great, if not, no loss.

I don't think he ever stating using it again, but I'm not sure if that's just because he is a grumpy old man or because he doesn't need it.

They tried to have me do a sleep study. It was absolutely impossible and I told them this. I said I'll need some kind of sleep aid if you want me to sleep in a strange place with people watching me. They said any sleep aids would ruin the results. So I tried, after 6 hours staring at the ceiling awake they said go home...

Then they said I could try doing it at home with a bunch of wires and monitors and a recorder then bring the stuff back for them to review. Still could not fall asleep with all the crap on me. Took the stuff back to them in the morning and they said I only slept for 2 - 30 minute periods in 7 hours.

I said yes this ain't gonna work unless you people drug me... They gave up... I went home and went to bed... :dunno:
