do all 2.3 standard transmission bell housings interchange? my 95 with the automatic needs a trannie and I'm sick of messing with the auto. It will be cheaper to go to a standard
 
Yes, the 2.5 is the same as well. You'll need a manual trans ECM though.
 
I think you need one from '88-98 though, because you need the speedometer gear input in the side which went away around '98... and I say back to '88 because that was the first year of the M5OD in 4 cylinder Rangers, and I wouldn't bother with anything but an M5OD, it's a good trans...
 
I believe the gear was on the tailshaft/tcase adapter which can be swapped over even If you use a VSS model trans. It's not as complicated as the automatics.
