Shifter knob replacement help

Howdy gang,

I am looking to replace my shifter knob. Mine came off while driving (awkward). I am looking for a round ball style shift knob. Has anyone threaded theirs or have any how to's advice on this?

Same thing happened with my ’83 almost 20 years ago. As I recall, the knob had splines inside and was a force-fit from the factory. After it popped off dozens of times, I think I just put a generous amount of epoxy inside and never had another problem with it.

I stuck my stripped-out knob on with blue rtv. No twisty-turny now.

I know this thread is almost a month old but for those looking for a new shifter knob, Look for a knob that is held by set screws. They usually have three screws evenly spread around the base and most times are tightened with an allen key. The knob will slide over the splined shaft on the shifter and the set screws hold it in place. Hope this helps those looking to replace an auto pop off knob when shifting.

The shift knob on my 84 Bronco 2 someone had made or was some sort of aftermarket knob that would come off all the time. I finally found the correct shift knob and just epoxied it to the shifter LOL. Nope didn't care about having to remove it if the tranny needed to be removed it went to the scrap yard anyhow so never became an issue. Once those stupid knobs come lose the only way to really fix it is to glue them on, epoxy usually works best. Otherwise they'll forever be randomly coming off.
