Shift linkage bushing install

Hi i have an 86 bronco ii automatic with floor shifter. A4LD tranny.

The other day the rear bushing on the shift linkage popped out. Had to tow it home. Got the 7$rebuild kit from autozone and the bushing won't go in no matter what i try. Any tips?

Put the bushing in the flat bar part (arm on the transmission) first. I'd put a little dab of grease on the shift arm (from the shifter, the round bar) and push it into the bushing

Used a 1/4 carriage bolt. Washer. Socket. Bushing..washer. nut. Went on smooth

Figured it out. Book is wrong. Its not 4 clicks on an A4LD it's 3 clicks.

No problem, I've found that's usually the way to put those sorts of connections together. Of course, this also makes me think that I might want to check the conditions of the bushings on mine when I can get back to my project

There is a difference between detente positions and clicks, it should have said four detente positions... which would be three clicks
