Hey Guys...

I've read everything that I can find concerning seating the torque converter in A4LD in my 87' Ranger. I just can't seem to find a solution to my problem.

The converter seemed to be seated. Went through 3 stages. Went to mount the tranny and made it to the alignment pins (1/2" gap between Block and Bell housing) . I tried using a long bolt to pull tranny in closer but then noticed converter was flush up with fly wheel. I pulled the tranny back out and as I saw in another post..I wiggled, giggled, twisted, turned...etc and could not get the converter to seat any further.

I set the tranny upon end and did a repeat of the above. No Change I thought maybe I was doing something wrong so I tried to stab it again. I pulled it up just enough to get the other bolts started. Everything was aligned correctly. I tried to turn the flywheel. Once again it was in a bind against converter. Pulled the tranny again.

I took a measurement from block to the outside edge of the flywheel. It was exactly 1.5 inches. I then measured from the front of the convertor at the base of the studs to the edge of the bellhousing on the tranny. It is about 1.25" . I know that there should be a little room between the converter and the flywheel before being bolted so I'm guessing that I have lost at least 1/2 inch somewhere.

Any suggestions/advice?

Thanks in advance,
Charles

when its in all the way, the T/C will rub on the bell housing.

I spin, push, and jiggle and they slide right in for me.

I get under the trans tilt the back up and push in with feet supporting front(if you got the strength, jacks limit movement). wiggle and push but make sure the torque converters aligned right some have different measurements and can only go in a certain way, it's easier with a partner if you got one. And make sure the dowel pins aren't blocking movement. Don't try to use bolts to get trans flush or it will bind up and tc wont move.Did that before
good luck
