Screeching metal noise!

I just replaced my belt and tensioner bacause it was loose and squeaky. Now i have a very aggressive screeching metal noise when i start the truck and at higher RPMs! The guys at the repair shop said it is the power steering pump. Any suggestions PLEASE help?

try looking at the ps fluid. I mean the power steering shouldn't screech when you first start, but hey ive seen some goofy things with these rangers, i mean my 4wd is wired in with the dome light. If it has fluid, it should be fine, and if the screeching gets really loud when you turn and the steering gets hard to turn, than yes it prolly is the ps pump but highly unlikely. If you just replaced the belt and the tensioner, the next thing i would check is the water pump, just my .02

well im not saying you did it... but i can't say i HAVEN'T seen people put the belt on wrong and have some of the driven pulleys turning backwards.

you'll know if its the P/S if the noise changes when you turn the wheel.

I replaced the water pump last year. I have fluid in the ps pump but, did notice a little seepage from one of the lines at the pump! Maybe I tweeked it a little when I did the H2O pump and never noticed? No noise when I turn. I will check the belt to make sure i did it properly. Maybe the idler pulley, AC pulley or alternator pulley? I'm broke can't afford to waste any cash on the wrong replacement part! Thanks for the help guys.

Just checked the belt and it's on correctly! LOL. This noise is driving me crazy I'm changing the idler pulley in the morning, hope that's it

Dont ignore the cam synchro, just because it started after the belt change doesnt mean its not something unrelated....just a thought.
