i'm thinking of purchasing a Screaming demon coil pack, i was wondering if anyone has tried them and what did they think of them? also interested in fabricating an off road y pipe for my truck as well, but i'm worried that it will be over the top loud and i'll get pulled over and ticketed. and will deleting my cats help with gas mileage?, i average about 21-22MPG city and 24-25MPG highway, i think it could get alittle better, but sometimes i like to push it to the 6000rpm limiter:headbang:

The coil pack will net you zero gains other than a lighter wallet..

Removing the catalytic converters is a federal offense and TRS does not condone the discussion of this topic. It will run like crap without them and will throw a CEL. Your gas mileage will go down, not up. Modern catalytic converters are in no way restrictive.

If that is the mileage you are getting out of your 4.0L it's doing perfectly fine as it is.

I bought my Screamin Demon for my Focus a while ago. Afterward someone did some testa compared to stock and it actually doesn't put out any more spark. It is a waste of money.

I won't comment on your cat.

thanks for all your advice:-) and yea that is my current mileage, i thought it was a little lacking, but it had tons of power. biggest MPG increases were from the underdrive pulleys, e-fan and surprisingly switching my ring and pinion from 3.55 to 3.90. what does everyone else average with their 4.0l sohc?

Well the one in my 05 sport trac get's right around 18-19 in town and 21-22 highway.

I think yours is doing just fine!

hes in canada, i dont think it would be a "federal offense"

and thats awesome mileage from a 4.0! my 91 2wd 4.0 extended cab ot maybe 19 on the highway.

Still illegal in Canada as well....

And even if it weren't, your perfectly valid reasons not to do it sums it up pretty well.

I don't do much highway driving, but my city MPG can range anywhere from 12 to 20, which is a direct reflection of how I feel like driving. 4.0, 4.10's, auto, stock meat.

I get 15 mpg driving averaged with both city and high way.... i dont have a heavy foot eaither. Fml

PM about the cats. Seeing as you didnt ask whether or not it was legal I will offer some answers, not THE answers but some. And this will be my own personal opinion, in no way related to TRS neither do they represent TRS. My cats just happened to have fallen off, so I have some experience running without them. I can say I think thye are crappy cuz they "fall off" all my vehicles LOL.

And -- how can anyone outright say the underdrive pulleys did nothing for him? You have no clue. You havent driven his truck you havent calculated his mileage. You dont drive with the same driving style he does. Maybe he saw gains maybe he didnt, but he says he did, I think he would know best if his truck improved at all.

most states down here dont have inspections anymore, however if you drive through an inspected state and are not in compliance they can fine you, even if you are passing through.

well the screeming demon coil with live wires made a major improve ment in my gas milage and mid to high torque. but i have 93 4.0 ohv. i gained 3-4 mpg city and same for highway so now im at 17 to 19 city and 18 to 21 high way depends how i drive, that extra passing power really helps when your behind sunday drivers. befor coil pack i was at 14 to 15 city and 17 to 19 highway. and idk what year you have and why you want to remove cat but its possiable to do so in mine cause my o2 sensors are before cats not after. i only have to cats but realy if you romoved one it will only help with exaust noise thats it. so over all just leave that cats and if you getting that good of mpg dont really bother with the coil pack and just to let you know you are one lucky sob to get that on a 4.0. i will be more that happy to trade you
