Hey guys so my latest acquisition is a 79 triumph spitfire that has been neglected for 15 years. It has been sitting out side and the wheels are rusted. Not all the way through or enough to cause structural damage. They are 13 inch steel wheels, the first thing the car needs is new rubber so it can at least role onto a trailer. My concern is that if I take them to a shop to get new rubber mounted they won't mount them due to the rust. So my question is, besides a wire wheel which I am willing to do if it comes to it, are there any more effective ways of removing rust from something that size? I have heard soaking it in vinegar works well but can eat through the metal if its left in for too long so what is the indication to pull it out?

I read that but am still vague on it, what is the wiring,

Positive to scrap metal, negative to part?

Yes the positive connects to the sacrificial metal and the negative to your part to be de-rusted. If you hook it up backwards it will eat the wrong piece of steel IE the part you are trying to restore. Also it only removes oxidized metal and does not eat the good clean steel. If the part is pitted to begin with it cleans out the pits but doesn't make them any larger.

Ok awesome with that cleared up that might be the way to go. Can I do multiple parts? Assuming my tank is big enough

And so there wouldn't be an issue with turning the set up on and going to work for a day?

Yes you can do multiples. You just need to make sure they are wired together. I put things in overnight or while I am at work often. I have not experienced any problems due to too much time. Usually I am impatient and don't want to wait long enough.

Since the tires are already shot you can pull the car with flat tires quite a ways before you hurt anything.

If they are pitted bad and tubeless you are probably never going to get them ever hold air again. Tube type are much more forgiving but it makes mounting the tire kinda tough and I don't know how they do at speed (we do it with implement tires all the time but they never go over 15mph.

wallisonline needs to be banned can someone get ahold of a mod

You yourself can do that. Look for the triangle with the exclamation point under the information to report the user.

I would get junk yard rims try trading them in i paid 30 bucks IIRC to get my GOOD condition wheels. All 4 of them,

Good condition steel rims for a '79 Triumph Spitfire arent something you just go find in any old junkyard.

^exactly. And the aftermarket rims that are available are a bit out of my price range, 600 bucks for a set of mini light style wheels, I believe the lug pattern is 4 5" are anyone know of any imports besides other British layland cars that have that pattern?
