i was wondering if it would be ok to start up my 79 bronco with the 351modified with just the stock headers? i only want to be able to fire it up just long enough to see if i got everything put back together right
thanks

Well it'll be loud as hell, so if there's something that's not right that you need to hear, you may not.

It's perfectly fine.

Guess I'll ask this here, when does burning up valves become an issue? I heard that driving a vehicle (not just starting it up like you are Boggin) with open headers can eventually burn up valves because the exhaust system can't transfer heat away from the head. Is this true or just a croc?

Just make sure the exhaust isn't pointed at anything you won't want melted. You may want to acquire some flex pipe to help get it out of the engine compartment and away from stuff.

long tube headers won't be much of an issue, stock manifolds more so.it's really mostly just when running open ports.it's not about the heat getting away,it's about oxygen being able to get to the hot valve, burning it like a torch would.the exhaust system won't allow oxygen to get back up to the valve, but an open port will.a stock manifold is pretty short,so at least the rear valve could be vulnerable.this would not be an issue unless the vehicle is being driven this way for extended amounts of time.
