I just bought a 95 ranger splash with a 4.0 and a 5 speed. I live in northern by and its cold here right now. My question is what would make the truck run really rough at idle bouncing from 600-900 rpms and it absolutely will not idle until its reached operating temp. If this question is already answered somewhere im sorry to ask it again and if you could point me to the forum I would greatly appreciate it

Agreed maf and or o2. Id check maf first. Then unplug each 02 and start it. If no change its faulty.

Ok. Will do but I am cleaning the throttle body and iac first. I'll let you guys know what what happens. I was leaning towards mad it seems loose in its houseing

Yeah, let us know what you find.

The O2 sensor plugs are a biotch to get to on a 4x4. Behind the engine and above the bell housing.

Could be a giant intake leak like big vacuum hose unplugged. Could be a simple fix like that? But maf definitely try cleaning it. Or see if the butterfly valve in the throttle body is gummed up. Hopefully it's not something mechanical probably wouldn't be. Might be the Iac valve too. Try cleaning that with some carb cleaner.

Just got home from town well I was there I picked up some maf cleaner and some throttle body cleaner im going to clean them in the morning. And I finally changed the check engine light bulb so I could read it with my scaner today and it was something to do with the egr system and a maf code. Don't remember the exact codes but now I know what to look for.

i cleaned the iac, maf, intake temp sensor and checked the egr pressure sensor today. the two hoses for the sensor were just about rotted off and the sensor is all plugged up. ordering a new one in a day or so. the old one was cleaned out and new hoses put on the truck runs alot better but still not perfect. im not getting the egr pressure code as soon as i was before. and i found out the hard way that my gas gauge doesnt work.

maf code is gone but now picking up an o2 sensor code so im going to clean them when i put it back up on the lift to change the rear spring hangars and shackles. one spring shacle broke and the hangars have pinholes

Still running like dog $#!t now picking up two system too lean codes and a differential pressure feedback circuit too high. Cleaned iac maf air temp sensor? And the egr pressure sensor. Also changed the hoses to the sensor. Can't figure it out and it's getting worse. Can't find any vac leaks
