Hello all,

Was looking into replacing the rockers and pushrods on my 92 OHV 4.0 while I do the valve cover gaskets. To get rid of this pesky noise that seems to be common on these engines due to poor oil circulation to the rockers. Looking up different kits on autozone, I found a couple from Comp Cams. Model: RP1416-12 which has a rocker ratio of 1.6, then kit RP1417-12 has a ratio of 1.52. Was wondering if anyone has any insight into whether these would work fine as a stock replacement and possible upgrade and would work fine with no other adjustments to the engine?

Hello, new member here but going through all that with my 97 right now. Went to replace cracked heads on a 4.0l w/450,000kms. Did my homework and found Tom Morana Racing online, ordered two HD complete heads with new gaskets and bolts, all came real fast, well packed and good quality. Talking to Tom on the phone he's a good old racing tech still doing what he loves. So I open my engine up and see my cam is galling in spots and losing its hard surfacing on most lobes. Time for new cam and lifters now, I search around and it leads back to Tom, he has new lifters that feed oil up to the pushrod, unlike factory lifters, and he has tubular pushrods to go with them. This all feeds the pocket in the rocker with loads of oil. Make sure you look at the other end of the rocker that touches the valve stem, they get badly galled and lose metal after time too, taiking away valve lift at the very least but metal drifting through your engine, much like the fine grindings from the pushrod wearing into the rocker. Change them out as soon as they start to grind. It can be felt while assembled still by twisting the pushrod between your fingers while just the valve cover is off and the particular rocker in question is on the flat low of the cam lobe, it should spin smoothly.
P.S., I believe factory ratio is something like 1.47 , ask Tom what he thinks, all he does is soup up ford V6's and he's in his 70s now! I think he's an awesome resource and valuable icon in V6 racing we should appreciate while we still have him! :)
